When logging in into my account the screen freezes and turns gray, going into console mode (ctrl+alt+f3) works fine. Tried downgrading to the 535 drivers but nothing changed, tried going back to 550 drivers but doesn’t work either. Started happening when switching from nouveau to nvidia drivers.
Specs:
GeForce 1050 ti
Amd ryzen 5 2600 Six-core processor
16 gb of ram with a 4gb zram partition
asus b450m-a
Kernel is 6.8.0-57-generic
Checking logs it said this:
nvidia gpu 1 failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device
Nvidia GO failed initialisation of X screen
@godoyzeusgodoyzeus is this related to Omniverse apps or…? could you also elaborate which account you referred to in your original post from where you had to log in?
If your issue is related to Omniverse apps, it’s most likely because you are using a GPU that doesn’t have RT cores, but feel free to confirm. in addition, below is the technical requirements from the official doc:
ah sorry abt the omniverse thing, idk what tags to use and it said tech support so i chose that one.
Account login: I loged into my account, i think it isn’t the admin account.
I share the computer with other ppl so i don’t rly have the password to that account.
Hi there @godoyzeusgodoyzeus, welcome to the NVIDIA developer forums.
I think the first thing for you to do is talk to whoever is administrator for that PC.
Any driver installation requires super user rights. As a normal user you cannot just “switch” from nouveau to NVIDIA. The process is a bit more involved.
Hi! I asked him and he said there is no defined main account.
Mine does have super user rights.
And how could I proceed? Nouveau it’s too slow for my computer

Hello again! sorry for taking so long to answer 😅.
I found out that switching from gdm3 to lightdm and then choosing to log in using Ubuntu on xorg seemed to fix the issue for me.
