@alexcrichton considering b25e100 builds successfully, I believe it is introduced by 8fbfa66

It looks like it happen because some rlibs contain length prefix and some do not - panic always happens with in MetadataBlob::as_slice with len = 0x9b100000 which looks like raw metadata.

Does this issue reproduce if you run make clean first?

Ran into this on Windows too. make clean fixed it, so it was probably just some old library that rustc found and tried to parse.
