While checking for #7637 I realized that sample was broken (doesn't log anything). Also I fail to see why it is based on the actuator. There's really nothing that should rely on that there.

It works with 1.4.x so something else must be going on.

This was caused by the #4809 fix. I've worked out another way and will update that issue.
