General compatibility with JDK 8u40 [SPR-12585]

JDK 8 update 40 is scheduled for general availability in March 2015. In the Spring Framework 4.1.5 timeframe, we need to make sure that the framework is fully runtime-compatible with it and that our build and test suite execute fine on 8u40.

JDK 8u40 is generally available now, and our 4.x build passes fine.
