Firstly, they serve as alternative sources of expert information. Secondly, they offer a parallel platform for disseminating information alongside traditional media genres and formats. Thirdly, they contribute to the development of a flexible media market, accommodating both public and private media entities, as well as individual, corporate, institutional, or organizational channels. This analysis focuses on podcasts in Bulgaria spanning from 2021 to 2023, produced and distributed by diverse media outlets, individuals, and organizations. The hypothesis posits that podcasts function as both media and businesses, serving as communication channels and a model that blends information dissemination with shared experiences. They represent a product resulting from media, digital, and communicative literacy. The methodology employed adopts an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing media, genre, and discourse analysis. The conclusions drawn are based on a comprehensive study, although not claiming to be exhaustive. It is assumed that podcasts in Bulgaria offer a versatile means of positioning themselves alongside traditional media, thereby contributing to the creative industry and the media market simultaneously.

On the other hand, there are new communicative situations that result from the development of artificial intelligence and a person being an active participant in virtual communication using digital tools. The hypothesis is that the dialogue is now not only on social networks, virtual forums, echo chambers, etc., but it is between human and chatbot, between chatbot and user, even between chatbots in different micro communities in a virtual environment. This raises the question of the identity of the individual and it can be a subject of research through an interdisciplinary approach. The focus of this paper is on presenting directions for future research on the identity of the individual while delineating new research fields on linguistic and communicative levels. Research methods for cyberethnographic observation and content analysis are suggested as adequate to the proposed study.

Abstract: The abstract, the forward and the review are genres with different frequencies of use and different functions in the implementation of the process of publishing scientific texts. The aim of the paper is to briefly highlight the linguistic and communicative features of three different academic genres in the context of contemporary academic communication. Academic genres have their place and purpose and are distinguished by specifics, with established standards at the structural, content, language and style levels. The forward still has its place in the publication of monographs and collections of papers; it is the result of expert evaluation or is the work of the scientific editor and synthesises in a review and critical perspective an already finished scientific product. The review or peer review has a different functional purpose in academia and is distinguished by established standards and strict rules. A review of a monograph is a presentation of a manuscript or published text and, unlike a forward, contains more elements of criticism. The abstract performs the functions of an announcement, of applying for participation in a conference, of disclosing achieved results in the scientific paper as a part of it or of presenting published scientific texts on sites (academic platforms, e-libraries etc.) personally or on behalf of publishing houses and journals. Some common linguistic features of the abstract, review and forward are terminology from one or several scientific fields, meta terms, nominative function, avoidance of expressive language, use of passive voice, etc.
Key words: academic genres, abstract, review, forward, linguistic features, application in scientific communication.
