This is because the DC hosts most of the enterprise applications that are accessed by a majority of the users. These applications could be core business applications, or business supporting applications such as email applications.
The DC also hosts the major databases within the organization. Most of the organizational data is stored in databases such as SQL, RDBMS, Oracle, and so on.
