The paper presents an FPGA-based fruit recognition system using a minimum distance classifier, focused on identifying apples, bananas, sapodillas, and strawberries from processed images. A total of 800 color images were analyzed, achieving a success rate of 85% through feature extraction using principle statistical measures and shape features. Key components of the implementation include hardware constraints discussed, results from MATLAB validations, and performance observed in the FPGA output using Verilog.
