This document outlines protocols for assessing hearing in infants and children according to age. It describes signs of hearing loss in babies from 1 month to 12 months old and challenges children with hearing loss may face in toddler, preschool, and school years. The recommended diagnostic audiological assessment protocol includes a battery of age-appropriate tests, including case history, otoscopy, acoustic immittance, otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response, behavioral observation audiometry, and standard audiometry. Tests are tailored to the child's developmental stage from birth to 5 years old to accurately diagnose hearing loss.
