This paper explores automatic generation control (AGC) in a four-area interconnected power system using advanced computational intelligence techniques like fuzzy logic and artificial neural networks. It introduces two new control approaches: the combined fuzzy logic and artificial neural network controller (FLANNC) and the hybrid neuro fuzzy controller (HNFC), focusing on maintaining system frequency and tie-line errors within prescribed limits. Simulation results demonstrate that these new controllers outperform conventional AGC methods, addressing issues associated with traditional control strategies.
