This document discusses a proposed coding and indexing method for shape features in content-based image retrieval (CBIR) applications using Golomb-Rice coding to reduce storage requirements and improve retrieval performance. The method involves creating a compact histogram of shape features, which is encoded to reduce the average bit length while ensuring high precision in image retrieval. Experimental results indicate that the proposed approach effectively compresses shape features and maintains retrieval accuracy similar to that of original histograms.
