OVERVIEW OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
• Topics:
• Introduction of database management system
• What is DBMS
• Key features of DBMS
• Types of DBMS
• Advantage of DBMS
• Disadvantage of dbms
INTRODUCTION OF DBMS
• A Database is a collection of interrelated data that helps in efficient retrieval,
insertion, and deletion of the data from database
WHAT IS DBMS
• A Database Management system (DBMS) is a software system that is
designed to manage and organized data in a structured manner
KEY FEATURES OF DBMS
• Data Modelling : DBMS provide tools for creating and modifying data models
• Data storage and retrieval : DBMS is responsible for storing and retrieving
the data from databse
• Concurrency control : DBMS ensures that multiple users can acces the data
without conflicting from each other
• Backup and recovery : DBMS provides mechanisms for backing up and
recovering the data in the event of system failure
TYPES OF DBMS
• RDBMS : data is organized in the form of table
• NoSQL : data is organized the form of key- value pairs
• OODBMS : OODBMS is known as object- oriented DBMS . Stores data in the
form of object
ADVANTAGE OF DBMS
• Data organization : DBMS allows for the organization and storage of data in
structured manner , making is easy to reterive
• Data security : DBMS provides tools for managing the security of the data, such
as controlling access to the data and encrypting the sensitive data
• Data sharing : DBMS allows multiple users to access and share the same data,
which can be useful in collaborative work environment
DISADVANTAGES OF DBMS
• Complexity : DBMS can be complex to setup and maintain ,requiring
specialized knowledge and skills
• Cost : the cost of purchasing , maintaining and upgrading a DBMS can be high
, especially for a large complex systems.
