The paper presents an improved binarization method for document images using an optimum mean technique, aimed at resolving issues with the existing Wolf method which struggles with low contrast and thin text detection. The proposed method demonstrates superior performance, achieving a higher f-measure (74.53) and a lower negative rate metric (0.11) compared to the Wolf method, indicating enhanced image quality. Through various experiments, the method significantly improves the detection of text in historical documents, which often contain noise and incomplete strokes.
