Change Values in a Cell Range in Excel

This tutorial will walk you through the steps of using Excel's Paste Special tool to make rapid changes to the numbers in a data range in Excel 2013 and 2016. You will learn the Excel instructions on how to do operations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing on a selected range of values.

Changing the Values in a Cell Range in Excel

Assuming you have a list of data that contains numeric values in the range B, and you want to update all of the numbers in the selected range of cells, for example, by adding the number 10, subtracting the number 10, or multiplying the number 10 by all of the values, use the following: "add number 10," "subtract 10," or "multiply 10."

Utilizing the Paste Special tool located on the Excel Ribbon enables you to easily update all of the numerical values located on the active worksheet all at once. Simply enter a value into a cell that is otherwise blank, copy that cell, and then paste its value into other cells in the spreadsheet. Simply carry out the processes as follows:

Let's understand step by step with an example.

Step 1

First of all, we must create a sample data. As shown in the below screenshot.

Step 2

In a cell that is otherwise empty on your spreadsheet, insert a number that you intend to use. After that, choose the cell you want to copy, and either click the Copy button or use the Ctrl + c keys on your keyboard. See the screenshot below.

Step 3

Choose the cells in the range that contain the numeric values that need to be modified. (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division). As shown in the below screenshot.

Step 4

Simply right-click on it, then select Paste Special from the list of options that appears in the drop-down menu that appears. And a dialog box for the paste Special command will open. See the below screenshot.

Step 5

Now, choose either Add or Other Operations from the drop-down menu under Operation. To put those changes into effect, click the Ok button. As shown in the below screenshot.

Step 6

Now, you should observe at this point that the number 10 will be added to all of the selected cells. As shown in the below screenshot.

Conclusion

In this tutorial, we used a simple example to show how you can change the values in a cell range in Excel using the Paste Special command.
